I'm a PhD student at the Australian National University's Mt Stromlo observatory and am part of the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF) graduate program. I study the properties on nearby galaxies and investigate the evolution of the local universe. As part of my research I am involved in two large surveys, the Local Sphere of Influence (LSI) survey and the Local Volume HI Survey (LVHIS). These two surveys allow me to study the stellar and the gas component of local galaxies.
I run the RSAA Student Outreach Group which invites school children to participate in free astronomy outreach evenings. This group was started by myself and others in late 2006.
When I'm not at work I like to spend my time hiking up in the mountains (preferably somewhere exotic but finances usually dictate that it be closer to home), listening to music, reading both fiction and non- fiction, and hanging out with friends, family and my cat Mitey.
