Your Merciful Grace, Nikolay Nikolaevich!
Mr. Apraksin, General of Cavalry, Military Governor of Smolensk, brought me a stone found in the Yukhnovsk Uezd. As some peasants witnessed, the stone fell from a height during a thunderstorm in March. Your Excellency can see the information received in the accompanying report. I think that I should send the stone to you, Your Merciful Grace, before submitting it to the Academy of Sciences for its examinations. Also I report to you that some portion of the stone was sawn off and that is why the stone has not its perfect original shape.
Sincerely Yours, with all respect, Your Excellency's most obedient servant,
Count V. Kochubey
Letter from Minister of Internal Affairs Count Kochubey
