Open
Displays the dialog to open an existing image:
Close
Closes the active image; prompts to save first if it has been
changed.
Close All
This option closes all open windows. Period.
Create Directory
This option allows the user to create a new directory
and optionally make it the default image directory.
Save
Saves the current image.
Save As
Saves the current image as a new file name or new file type,
or both. This function is used to rename modified files or convert file
types; for example .BMP to .FTS. Note that certain conversions may not be
possible depending upon the detail available in the source image, and the
detail required be the new format. If this happens, you will receive a message
stating so, and the new file will not be created. The window has the same
appearance as the Open dialog above.
Set User Preferences
This displays
a window that the user can use to set default settings for a variety of
options:
The Image Information defaults will be added to the Image Info automatically
for each exposure.
The Camera Settings define the comm port, baud rate, and SCSI ID (416/1616only). To disable the SCSI connection, select "serial" from the
SCSI list box. Note that 115k baud is only available on the 416XT and 1616XT.
The System settings control the default behavior of PictorView XT. The default
temperature is what will always be set unless overridden in the Set Temperature
dialog described below.
- The Minimize Open Images on Download option will iconize any open
images before taking an exposure. This may be useful when you are taking
repeated images, and want to tell at a glance which one is the current exposure,
without having to read all the image window titles.
- The Copy New to Clipboard option will automatically copy the raw image
to the clipboard as a bitmap. This way, if something should happen (i.e.
subtracting the wrong calibration file, unexpected hangup, etc.), the image
can be pasted into another application and saved to be re-opened by PictorView.
- The Close Image on Save will close the image window as the image is
saved. This can be useful to prevent having 20 or more images open at once,
and saves having to close them manually. Note that this is not the same
as the Close All feature described below.
- The Keep Image Info w/ Non FITS is an option that will allow the Image
Info created with an exposure to be saved along with image formats that
do not support image information directly. This is done by creating a text
file with the same name as the image file. The drawback is that there are
two files for each image that is not FITS type, however, the text files
are small; around 1k, so this may not be important. Note that Image Information
is saved within the FITS file, so there will not be a text file to accompany
these files. FITS files are also the astronomical standard for black and
white images.
- The Make Night Vision Red Option will make the images red when in
Night Vision, or blue when in CCD Vision. If this option is turned off,
images will always be displayed as grayscale.
- The Auto Zoom option will provide an on-the-fly scale-to-fit feature.
This is especially useful for small screens or large image files.
The Default Image Directories section allows you to tell PictorView XT whereto automatically put calibration files and image files. This example show
the image directory set to c:\pview\images, and the calibration directory
set to c:\pview\calibrat. Pressing the Path button brings up a directory
and drive browser to eliminate the need to enter the paths manually (though
you can do so). These settings are permanently saved between PictorView
XT sessions, and you can change them as often as you like. Changes made
take effect immediately; there is no need to restart the software.
Print
This displays a window for
setting printing options and printing the active image:
Print Preview
Displays a full screenshot of the image as it will be printed. Allows you to print the image or
cancel:
Print Setup
Displays the window to set the printer options; active
printer, paper tray, etc. The appearance of this window may vary from printer
to printer.
MRU Files
Shows a list of the last 4 (default) most recently opened
files. You may re-open these by clicking on them.
Exit
Exits the application. Prompts the user to confirm that they
wish to exit and if online, also reminds the user so and prompts whether
or not to completely reboot the Pictor on exit. See the Connection Menu
for more details.
