IMPORTANT NOTICE! Never use a telescope or spotting scope to look at the Sun! Observing the Sun, even for the shortest fraction of a second, will cause irreversible damage to your eye as well as physical damage to the telescope or spotting scope itself.
Taking Images

Before Taking an Image:

1. Ensure that the Pictor is powered on, and connected to the computer.

2. Focus the Pictor using the Focusing mode described above or a parfocal eyepiece if desired. (see appendix).

3. Take calibration frames. (if desired, you may do this with each image).

To Take an Image:

1. Click the X on the toolbar or chose Connect from the Connection Menu.

2. Select the appropriate Exposure Setup from the pick list

3. Click the Camera Icon.

4. A countdown timer will appear while the camera is exposing.

5. When the camera is done, a percentage bar will appear as the image is transferred.

6. The new image will appear.

7. If the image does not look good, use the arrow keys to adjust the appearance. Press the up and down arrow keys to increase and decrease the image background(brightness). Press the left and right arrow keys to increase and decrease the image's dynamic range (contrast).

8. You can enter log information by selecting Information from the Image Menu or clicking the clipboard icon on the toolbar.

9. Some information is already pre-filled, such as exposure time, date, image size, camera temperature, and information you entered in User Preferences.

You may process the image in various ways, including combining multiple images, sharpen/unsharp, background and range, histogram analysis, contrast, and other transformations (see Image Processing).

10. If you wish to save this image, select Save As from the File Menu or click the disk icon on the toolbar. (or press F2).
