French-Israeli Workshop Global Fields: Algebra, Geometry, Arithmetic
NAHARIYA, May 7­11, 2006 FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT Organizers: Boris Kunyavski (Bar-Ilan University) (kunyav@macs.biu.ac.il) i Michael Tsfasman (CNRS) (tsfasman@iml.univ-mrs.fr) Program: The workshop will cover all aspects of number fields and function fields, including algebraic groups over such fields. It is conceived for bringing together graduate students, postdo cs, and more experienced researchers working in the area. The workshop will start on Sunday afterno on, May 7, and end on Thursday afterno on, May 11. Morning is planned for minicourses and 1-hour survey talks, and late afterno on for shorter communications. Long afterno on break is reserved for non-formal discussions. On Tuesday, May 9, a trip around Galilee is planned. Those interested in participating are already invited to contact one of the organizers. The second announcement with more details as for the program and registration formalities will be circulated in early April 2006. This workshop is part of the activities of the French-Israeli program of co operation between Institute of Mathematics of Luminy, Poncelet French-Russian Mathematics Laboratory and Bar-Ilan University, supported by the Ministry of Education (France) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (Israel). Accommodation: The workshop will take place in a hotel in Nahariya (Western Galilee). Details will follow in the second announcement. Location: The venue of the workshop, Nahariya, is a small resort town in the north of Israel on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea). The weather during the month of May is warm and dry. Air and water temperatures allow one pleasant beach activities. Nahariya has convenient railway connection to the Ben-Gurion International airport and most Israeli cities. All ma jor attractions of the northern part of Israel are within easy drive. Those planning a longer stay in Israel may be interested in attending Gelbart's conference to be held in the Weizmann Institute (May 15­19, 2006) (see http://www.weizmann.ac.il/math/auto-work/auto poster.pdf ).
