First Russian-French workshop on Mathematics of Communications took place from November 3 to November 6, 2003 in Moscow, Russia. The workshop was organised by the French-Russian laboratory LIFR-MIIP of CNRS (France) and Independent University of Moscow (IUM) with the participation of the Embassy of France in Moscow, Institute of Information Transmission Problems of RAS, Centre de Physique Th?orique and Institut de Math?matiques de Luminy.
Professors Gilles Lachaud (IML) , Michael Tsfasman (IML and IUM) and Dr. Grigory Kabatiansky (IITP RAS) served as co-chairs for organizing and technical program committees.
More that twenty researchers from France, Russia and Finland participated in the workshop. They represented such leading research universities, institutes and companies as: Institute Mathematique de Luminy (CNRS) Centre de Physique Theorique (CNRS) Institute de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique L'Ecole Nationale Superiere de Techniques Avancees Independent University of Moscow Institute of Information Transmission Problems (RAS) Institute of Applied Mathematics (RAS) Moscow State University Moscow University of Physics and Technology Center for Scientific Telecommunications and Information Technologies (RAS) St-Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation Nokia Mobile Phones/ Nokia Platforms.
Program of the workshop consisted of nine lectures devoted to different areas of possible and real applications of Mathematics to Communications, from zeta functions to transport coding and Poisson conjecture (see the list of talks). Another important part of the conference were four "round-tables" dedicated to prospects and future trends of Mathematics in Communications.
The workshop was held in the Independent University of Moscow located in the heart of Moscow, inside of Garden Ring. Participants enjoyed the pleasant scientific atmosphere of the workshop as well as seeing the sights of Moscow.
