The Most Advanced Epi-Fluorescent Microscope for Research, Clinical and Semi-Conductor Applications

The special micro-optics design team at LOMO®’s world-renowned R&D center in St. Petersburg, Russia created the LUMAM™ microscope with Infinity-Corrected Plan Achromat and Plan Fluorite objective series to be capable of exceeding the most demanding requirements of the world’s epi-fluorescence research community. All of the objectives included with the LUMAM are manufactured without auto-fluorescing glass. Flare and internal reflections are eliminated by LOMO’s exclusive multilayer coating technology. LUMAM objectives yield exceptionally flat images for the most demanding observations or critical photomicrography tasks. Featuring increased numerical apertures for clearer interpretations of specimen detail, LUMAM objectives are also corrected for spherical and chromatic aberrations, secondary spectrum, coma and astigmatism.

LUMAM™ microscopes include high-performance fluorescence filters specially developed by LOMO for fluorescence microscopy. In North America, LUMAM microscopes are configured to work with standard fluorescence filters from Omega® Optical, Inc.

OBSERVATION HEAD

  • HB-45LU Binocular Observation Head
  • HT-45LU Trinocular Observation Head

EYEPIECES

The LUMAM includes seven high- performance compensating widefield eyepieces.

FACEPLATE (UV Shade)

The LUMAM Faceplate is a removable shade that protects the user’s eyes from UV illumination.

FOCUSING

The LUMAM smooth coaxial Focusing is achieved by a wear-resistant roller-race mechanism that virtually eliminates backlash and unwanted lateral shift of the specimen. One full revolution of the large knurled knobs corresponds to 6.5mm (coarse) and 0.250mm (fine) of the stage’s vertical movement. The fine focus can be adjusted over the entire 27mm range of the coarse focus. The graduated micrometer knob allows for vertical measurements accurate to 0.002mm, and a slip-clutch mechanism is built into the focusing system.

REVOLVING NOSEPIECE

The LUMAM quadruple Revolving Nosepiece is a precision ball-bearing mechanism with click stops for parfocality, parcentricity and exact optical alignment. It has a wide knurled grip for easy rotation.

OBJECTIVES

The LUMAM objective series features infinity-corrected Plan Fluorite and Plan Achromat objectives all specially designed for phase contrast and/or fluorescence microscopy.

FILTER CUBES / FLUORESCENCE FILTERS

LUMAM™ microscopes include high-performance fluorescence filters specially developed by LOMO for fluorescence microscopy. In North America, LUMAM microscopes are configured to work with standard fluorescence filters from Omega® Optical, Inc. Since 1969, Omega has pioneered developments in filter technology for fluorescence microscopy, stimulating the science of optical microscopy and fluorescence detection.

Alpha Vivid sets use proprietary technology for both the excitation and the emission filters. Passband slopes are extremely steep, with transmission approaching unity in both the excitation and the emission channels. The crossover between excitation and emission has the highest optical density (OD) of any available filter set. Alpha Vivid sets are manufactured without auto-fluorescent absorption glasses typically used in manufacturing filters. With extreme edge steepness, high throughput, and high-density crossover blocking, Alpha Vivid sets are the current state of the art for signal-to-noise ratio in low light level imaging applications.

MECHANICAL STAGE

The large Mechanical Stage is 160mm x 140mm and is coated with a special chemical-resistant epoxy for years of use in a rugged laboratory environment. The large knurled knobs of the low position X and Y controls assure convenient, fatigue-free operation. The specimen holder is adjustable and also removable for unobstructed sample manipulation or for use with larger sample vessels. The precise, wear-resistant mechanism allows for smooth specimen cross-travel of 76mm x 30mm, measured against two 1mm-graduated scales with verniers accurate to 0.1mm.

CONDENSERS

Adding to the versatility of the LUMAM, and to better accommodate the diversity of your laboratory and applications, two high-performance, chromatically corrected, fully focusable and centerable condensers are included with each LUMAM. Specifically developed to optically match the LUMAM illumination system, the condensers provide critical focus with any specimen.

BASE

The Base is a large, sturdy design with four rubber feet, which provides maximum stability and protects the LUMAM against vibrations – a particular advantage for photomicrography. The ergonomic design of the 200mm x 250mm base features built-in, chemical-resistant armrests that are raised to allow easy access to all controls while the microscopist’s arms rest comfortably during the entire operation.

STAND

The anodized aluminum Stand is rugged, stable and the “backbone” of the LUMAM microscope. It allows the attachment of all modules and components, such as the mechanical stage, condensers, objectives, filters, fluorescence cubes, mercury epi-illuminator and observation heads.

100W MERCURY EPI-ILLUMINATION

The LUMAM Mercury Epi-Illumination is the standard light source system for research fluorescence. Using 100 watts of mercury illumination, it guarantees outstanding brightness, contrast and sharpness for superb fluorescence images. The HBO 100W/2 bulbs are completely focusable and centerable, and the illumination system also utilizes a mirror that projects a double image of the bulb for optimal lighting performance. For safety, the lamp housing incorporates a built-in shutter to completely block the mercury illumination path. The external power supply is made in the USA and can be used simultaneously with the transmitted halogen illumination system. The front of the power supply contains a digital counter to monitor the life of the bulb.

KÆhler Transmitted Illumination

The LUMAM Transmitted Illumination is a 6-volt, 25-watt KÆhler halogen system that guarantees sharp, bright images and perfect color temperature control for photomicrography. The dedicated in-base power supply ensures continuous regulation of light intensity, and the intensity control also incorporates the ON/OFF switch to extend bulb life. The reliable electronics system is protected by a fuse, and also features a 110/220V input voltage selector, so the LUMAM can be used anywhere in the world. The power cord is detachable for convenient storage, and is UL and CSA listed.

Standard Accessories

LUMAM Microscopes come with everything you need to start analyzing your samples right out of the box. They are loaded with valuable extras that would cost hundreds of dollars more from any other manufacturer: a set of 6 contrast-enhancing filters for transmitted light (red, light green, dark green, orange, blue and neutral density), a set of 5 filter sliders for reflected light, 2 bottles of immersion oil, 2 interchangeable reticles, a pinhole eyepiece, centering telescope, 2 extra halogen and mercury bulbs, centering wrenches, a screwdriver, and a centering slide for the mercury bulb.
