Unsurpassed optical performance,
Unique design features,
Unmatched durability

Designed by American and Russian engineers and built by LOMO PLC, one of Europe’s oldest and most advanced optical manufacturers, POLAM™ Series Microscopes can be configured for both research and routine applications as well as for teaching environments in any of the multiple disciplines of polarized light microscopy: Analytical Chemistry, Biological Sciences and Medicine, Crystallography, Forensics, Environmental Sciences, Geology, Pharmaceuticals, Toxicology, Asbestos Analysis, etc. Priced many thousands of dollars less than any comparable product from any major microscope manufacturer, the POLAM™ Series fills a gap that exists in today’s market.

When you have to study the properties of a birefringent specimen in reflected polarized light, the POLAM-P Reflected Polarized Light Configuration (for Transmitted Polarized Light Configuration POLAM™-L click here) of our POLAM™ family will meet the most demanding requirements of your applications in

  • Metallurgy

  • Crystallography

  • Petrography

  • Geology

  • Mineralogy

  • Materials Sciences

(For POLAM™ photo image gallery click here).

LOMO has designed the POLAM™-P microscope to share many of its features and precision components with the POLAM™-L. These include the same trinocular head with three vertical adapters, the same intermediate module with built-in Bertrand lens and analyzer, the same rugged stand with coaxial focusing, and the same precision rotatable stage that accepts the included stage clips. However, in order to meet the demands of your diverse applications in reflected polarized light microscopy, the POLAM™-P is equipped with several unique design features unavailable from any other microscope manufacturer in the world:

  • The dual Illumination system includes a 6V/20W halogen transmitted light illuminator built into the base of the microscope, and the unique and versatile OPOS-1 Epi-illuminator.

  • The precise and centerable single objective clamp makes the interchange of objectives quick and easy.

  • The set of 5 brilliant POP-Series strain-free Achromats had been specifically developed by LOMO for reflected polarized light use.

OBSERVATION HEAD

The POLAM™-P comes standard with the HU-POL Universal Head. The 360° rotatable head features a built-in iris diaphragm, optical path selector and a vertical photo/video port. LOMO’s exclusive multilayer coating technology ensures bright, flare-free images.

BASE / STAND

The large, sturdy 200mm x 250mm tripod base with rubber feet provides maximum stability and insulates the POLAM™from vibrations – a particular advantage for photomicrography. The base’s ergonomic design features armrests that are raised to allow easy access to all controls while the microscopist’s arms rest comfortably during the entire operation.

Rugged and stable, a “backbone” of POLAM™ Microscopes, the stand allows attachment of all the standard and optional modules and components such as stages, condensers, illuminators, and the intermediate module.

FOCUSING

The smooth coaxial focusing is achieved by the POLAM’s wear-resistant ball-bearing mechanism that virtually eliminates backlash and unwanted lateral shift of the specimen during focusing. One full revolution of the large knurled knobs corresponds to 6.3mm (coarse) and 0.25mm (fine) of the stage’s vertical movement. The coarse focus has a travel range of 33mm and the fine – 2.5mm. The graduated micrometer knob allows vertical measurements accurate to 0.002 mm.

OBJECTIVE CLAMP

The precise and centerable single objective clamp makes the interchange of objectives quick and easy.

STAGES

  • Round, 360° Rotatable, Ball-bearing, Graduated Stage CT-17 POL
  • Attachable Mechanical Stage CT-11

ILLUMINATION SYSTEM

The dual illumination system includes the OI-37 6V/20W  halogen transmitted light illuminator built into the base of the microscope, and the unique and versatile OPOS-1 6V/20W halogen epi-illuminator.

CONDENSERS

Each POLAM™-P includes the CN-POP N.A. 0.30 strain-free achromatic condenser with a built-in iris diaphragm and graduated, 360° rotatable polarizer.

POLARIZER

The high-quality glass polarizer is 360° rotatable with the scale graduated to 5°. The polarizer is mounted under the condenser and its fully removable for optimal Brightfield observation.

OBJECTIVES

The POLAM™-P includes a set of five brilliant POP-Series strain-free achromatic objectives specifically developed by LOMO for reflected polarized light use.

EYEPIECES

The POLAM™-P includes five high performance EPW compensating eyepieces: two 10X and three 6.3X.

INTERMEDIATE MODULE (IM-POL)

The Intermediate Module is a standard feature on every POLAM™-P. The Intermediate Module is used for the introduction into the optical path and rotation of the analyzer, manipulation of compensators, and between Conoscopic and Orthoscopic observation methods.

COMPENSATORS

Each POLAM™-P comes standard with the CP-FR First Order Red Plate and a three position interference filter slider that has wavelengths of 480nm, 590nm, 625nm.

PHOTOMICROGRAPHY / CCTV

Several interchangeable vertical adapters used with the HU-POL Universal Head on POLAM™-P microscope allow for a wide variety of photomicrographic capabilities.
