Dnepr launch vehicle carrying TanDEM-X satellite successfully blasted off from Baikonur Cosmodrome on 21 June 2010 at 6:14:03, Moscow time. The launch had been prepared by ISC Kosmotras, as well as by Russian and Ukraine cooperative businesses, with participation of the Russian Ministry of Defence and performed by Roscosmos launch crew.
TanDEM-X is designated to generate high accuracy global digital elevation model and operates in close formation with TerraSar-X satellite (inserted into orbit by Dnepr LV from Baikonur in 2007). This mission is accomplished by downlink of radar static images from the two synchronized satellites.
TanDEM-X was designed and manufactured by EADS ASTRIUM GmbH on order of DLR (German Aerospace Centre).
TanDEM-X is placed into 509.8-km circular sun-synchronous orbit with the required parameters.
It was the 15th successful launch under Dnepr Programme.
ISC Kosmotras extends its congratulations on the launch success to all the mission participants!
