RapidEye Injection Accuracy
|
Following expeditious telemetry data processing, injection accuracy of five RapidEye satellites launched on 29.08.2008 from Baikonur Cosmodrome was calculated. Injection accuracy, as compared with predicted orbital parameters, was: along semi-major axis (altitude) - 660m for RapidEye 1 and 70m for RapidEye 5, which separated last; orbit eccentricity accuracy was: 0.00008; orbit inclination accuracy 0.004 degrees. The message received from the first stage drop zone indicates that the first stage dropped at the distance of 2500m along track and 400m across track relative to expected dispersion ellipse center. Satellite injection accuracy is of paramount importance to minimize consumption of propellant required for orbit correction. This is especially essential for the satellites forming an orbital constellation, RapidEye constellation in particular.
