EDT, Kennedy Space Center, FL · Mission Highlights: The seventh Mir docking mission carried a SPACEHAB double module to house experiments and support five days of docked operations including cargo transfer and the exchange of American crew members Foale and Wolf. Parazynski and Titov conducted a five-hour Extravehicular Activity (EVA)- the first U.S. spacewalk to include participation by a foreign astronaut- to retrieve four Mir Environmental Effects Payloads (MEEPs). They also tethered a solar array cap to the exterior of the Mir Docking Module and tested the Simplified Aid for EVA Rescue (SAFER), a small jet backpack. Other payloads onboard included SEEDS-II, KIDSAT, Commercial Protein Crystal Growth (CPGG), Cosmic Radiation Effects and Activation Monitor (CREAM), Cell Culture Module-A (CCM-A), Radiation Monitoring Equipment III (RME-III), and Shuttle Ionospheric Modification with Pulsed Local Exhaust (SIMPLEX).
