Eruptive Event with Unusually Fast-Drifting Type II Radio Burst

IZMIRAN, Troitsk, Moscow Region, 142190, Russia

We consider the event of 17 September 2001, 08:20–08:50 UT registered with the IZMIRAN digital  radio spectrograph in the range of 25–270 MHz. Besides a group of type III burst and usual type II burst, another harmonical type II burst was observed. The frequency drift velocity of the latter was about 5 times larger than that of the first type II burst. It is argued that such unusual fast drift of the radio emission was caused by a peculiarity of the accompanied coronal mass ejection (CME): the brightest southeastern sector of the CME front had an inclined, flat shape and propagated on a large angle relative to the radial direction.
