Fig. 1. An example of the EUV large-scale chains revealed by the modified TRACE EUV images.

(a) - The original TRACE EUV (171 A) mosaic image of August 3, 1998. Some thin chains and threads are seen inside the active complexes A and B in the north-west and south-west sectors of the disk. Large-scale structures outside the complexes are hardy visible.

(b) - The same TRACE image, but after a modification. The bright sources are saturated, but presence of the numerous large-scale chains and treads became much more noticeable and obvious. It is not so easy to indicate the configuration of concrete chains unambiguously. However a number of sufficiently clear large-scale structures can be distinguished: a high-latitude straight-line diffuse chain 1-2, a "J"-like chain 3-4 in the south-east sector, a long transequatorial chain 5-6 with a possible continuation to the north pole area, a loop-like chain 7-8-9 with a top stretched to the north pole zone, a curved chain 10-11 in the north-east sector, and others.

It is important to note on an example of this event that large-scale chains and threads may intersect each other and this their feature should be studied in details as well.
