August 22, 1996

Fig. 1. Transient large-scale chains of August 22, 1996 in four SOHO/EIT channels.

At least two large scale chains go from the active zone 1 near the S-E limb where the 1N/C4.5 LDE event , long-duration two-component microwave GRF burst , and the large loop-like CME took place several hours before. One chain 1-2 stretches to the south pole region. In other chains, the bright points are located along the large arch 1-3-4 convex to the solar equator. Then, already at the western half of the disk, the structure 3-5-6 of an almost rectangular form is branched of this arch and goes to the N-W sector of the limb. In some images (see (b), for example), a transequatirial chain 6-4 going along the west limb can be seen as a possible continuation of this structure. All chains mentioned above are seen better in the coronal lines (a-c).

Fig. 2. Large-scale chains of August 22, 1996 in EUV, soft X-ray and microwave ranges.

The coinciding arch-like chain 1-2-3 and rectangular structure 2-4-5 are present on modified SOHO/EIT, 195 A (a) and Yohkoh/SXT (b) images. The similar configurations are outlined also on the Nobeyama radio heliogram (c), in spite of it was observed more than 6 hours latter.
