HOTEL “AMBASSADOR”
Rimsky-Korsakov Ave., 5-7, 190068, Saint-Petersburg, Russia

hotel

Luxurious hotels started appearing in European cities as early as the 18th century, and staying in them was considered an honor even for the most demanding public. Among such hotels as the Astoria, the Europe and the Atlantic, hotels named the Ambassador became a popular place where the nobility liked staying. In the early 20th century these hotels were ranked among the best ones and became famous for their rich high life. The Ambassador Hotel is located in the historic center of St. Petersburg, a 7-minute walk away from Sadovaya (Sennaya Ploschad’) Underground Station. St. Isaac and St. Nicholas Cathedral, the Mariinsky Theatre, and the Yusupov Gardens are all in the immediate vicinity of the hotel and you can visit them while you take a walk.
The hotel building is a unique complex which combines an architectural monument of the 19th century and a modern building. An atrium plays the central role in the foot plan of the complex. A prominent architect A. Svistunov, who took part in recreation of the interiors of the 19th century palaces that used to belong to nobility in St. Petersburg, is the author of interior design of the state- rooms of the hotel. At the Ambassador Hotel, the architect, who followed the tradition of the Academy of Fine Arts, used the Russian interior design of the 19th century as a model and gave a new interpretation of well-known classics. The state-rooms of the hotel feature a large variety of elegant lamps, vases, paintings and stucco moldings designed in the Empire style and full of fascination and charm.
There are 251 comfortable rooms at the hotel, including the rooms of the following categories: Economy, Standard, Superior, Studio, Demi-Suite, Suite, as well as the Rimsky-Korsakov and Presidential Apartments. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning, Internet access, a direct international and inter-city telephone line, interactive and satellite TV, a mini-bar and a safe.
All rooms are decorated in tranquil pastel shades with comfortable furniture upholstered in elegant fabrics and luxurious curtains. Bath rooms are equipped with big mirrors and somewhere are decorated with mosaic. All the rooms have a beautiful view on the historic city center, cozy courtyard or Rimsky-Korsakov avenue. According modern standards, the hotel has comfortable rooms equipped for physically handicapped guests.

VISA

There are two kinds of visas you may wish to apply for. A tourist visa invitation is quicker to make. However, we heard that some travel grants do not reimburse for tourist visas. In this case you will definitely need a business visa. The Institute of Applied Astronomy will provide you with an invitation which will be authorized by a governmental department and will imply obtaining a visa nearly automatically. However, the procedure of the invitation issue could takes about two months.
Please fill in the Visa Invitation Request Form. Please fill in ALL items, especially the PASSPORT DATA, if you do need a Russian visa. If you come with an accompanying person and she/he also need a visa (is not a Russian citizen), we ask you to fill in the registration form for every accompanying person.
Upon receiving your visa form and that of your accompanying person the Institute of Applied Astronomy applies to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for your Invitation to visit Russia. A month later (in case of a business visa) or a week later (in case of a tourist visa) an invitation is issued. We send you the invitation by fax (however we know that several Russian Consulates accept only the original paper versions of the invitation. In this case we post it to you). You go to the Russian Consulate which you mentioned in your visa form and apply for a Russian visa.
