Research Activities |
The research program of the Laboratory is concentrated on experimental investigations of novel superconductors such as high temperature superconductors and organic superconductors and on the studies of artificial rconducting structures such as Josephson junctions, superconducting multilayers and networks. Large part of the present activity is related to the study of the vortex dynamics in layered superconductors, distributed Josephson junctions and one-and two-dimensional Josephson arrays fabricated in the Laboratory. The main experimental techniques include resistive, thermoelectric, magnetic and magnetotransport measurements as well as special precision methods such as the decoration with small ferromagnetic particles, UID-magnetometer and SQUID-voltmeter. Device oriented work aims at realization of the superconducting flux-flow oscillator for sub-mm wave receivers. Josephson pi-junction based on superconductor- ferromagnet-superconductor (SFS) sandwiches are being studied now. It was shown that the crossover from the 0-state to the pi-state of the junction manifests itself as anomalous reentrant temperature dependence of the critical current. The crossover to the pi-state also manifestes itself in the half-period shift of the external magnetic field dependence of the transport critical current in the triangular SFS arrays. |
