As usual you may change only US dollars and Russian rubles in exchange 
offices and banks in Crimea. Sometimes German mark is also may be changed.
 
 Short history of monetary system.
The first monetary reform after USSR-times was implemented in Ukraine 
in 1991-1992. The ukrainian karbovanets (equal to 10 Soviet rubles) was put 
into circulation in Ukraine. This monetary unit became the victim of 
inflation, caused by the economic crises.
The second monetary reform in Ukraine after USSR-times was carried 
out on September 2-16, 1996. The currency "grivna" and its one hundredth 
part - "kopijka" was put into circulation. Karbovanets deposits of 
households were converted into Hryvnia deposits according to the 
exchange rate of 100 000 karbovanets = 1 grivna. I.e. now the total
denominational factor grivna / sov.ruble is 1 000 000.
There are now (September 2001) in circulation:
banknotes of the following denominations: 
1 grivna (1992, 1994, 1995), 
2 grivnas (1992, 1995, 2001), 
5 grivnas (1992, 1994, 1997, 2001), 
10 grivnas (1992, 1994, 2000), 
20 grivnas (1992, 1995, 2000), 
50, 100 and 200 grivnas;
change coins of the denominations: 
1 kopijka, 2 kopijki, 5, 10, 25, 50 kopijok and 1 grivna.
