X International Astronomy Olympiad
Beijing, China, October 25 - November 2, 2005.
Brief information - announcement
The 10th International Astronomy Olympiad will be held
on October 25 - November 2, 2005.
The dates are about the same as the first IAOs took place in SAO.
Arrival, first night (and previous 1-2 nights if necessary for some
teams), opening ceremony will be in the capital of China, city Beijing.
In the afternoon on October 26 the teams to be delivered to the main
place of the Olympiad - Huairou town in Beijing region, to the
North from Beijing city.
The duration of the Olympiad to be the same as last year in Crimea.
Day of the official departure is November 2. Some additional programme
on the next days may be organized (like in 2001 in Crimea) for some teams.
The programme of these days may be discussed with every team individually.
Observers from new countries are welcome to the Olympiad!
Official languages of the Olympiad are Russian and English .
Problems will be prepared by the Organizing Committee in
these two languages and the leaders are responsible to
translate tasks to native languages of participants just before
the rounds (three hours before). Character of the problems to
solve were analogous to ones of the previous International
Astronomy Olympiads (1996-2004).
Formation of the teams

Acting Statutes/Regulations
of the International Astronomy Olympiad and the
Supplementary Instructions N 3.
Applications
The first part of preparing application is presenting of a short
report of National Olympiad of the current year for the Advisory
Committee. Necessary actual points of the report, the form and examples
for the report are in the Supplementary
Instructions N 10).
The report with texts of all problems used during all-national stages
(including ones during the possible preparing camps) of the National
Olympiad should be done in one of the official languages of the
Olympiad (Russian or English). The final minutes (protocols written
in Latin or Cyrillic) of the Olympiad (evaluating of solutions
of every problem of the students participated in the last stage
of the Olympiad) should be included as well. The report has to be
presented in advance.

Not later than in five weeks after receiving the report (as usual -
earlier, see schedule)
the Chairman of the Advisory Committee will issue resolution about
possibility for the country to send full (or not full) team to the
IAO (i.e. solution about the representation quota: according to
# 5.2.1.
or to # 5.2.2.
of the Statutes/Regulations the team may be form).
After receiving the resolution (and only after) about possible
number of participants the country have to send application.
Applications includes personal data of proposed team leaders
and participants.

Applications should be done in advance to the Advisory Committee.
Translation to the national language of participants of the Rules and Regulations for a
participant of the Olympiad should be included to the
application as well. For those who translated the document last
year, the only a few modifications have to be done, see explanations
in files pam04rus.html
or pam04eng.html.

The official deadline for receiving the short
report of National Olympiad of the current year with a set of all
problems used on the National Olympiad:

Note 1: A team may use other way to get visas (i.e. not through
invitations organized by the LOC), but it necessary to inform LOC
about this way in advance and take permission from LOC.
Note 2: LOC may send various types of invitations issued by
organizations involved into IAO-2005 organization. As usual these
invitations are not official for asking visas in Chinese Consulates,
but in some cases it maybe helpful. The faxes with such inofficial
invitations may be sent directly to the Consulates as well.
Note 3: For the case a team is late to send the data in time:
LOC recommends to use touristic companies in your country to obtaine
touristic visas to China. The faxes with inofficial invitations
may be sent directly to the touristic company (to the company you
choose) as well.
LOC will issue and send invitations for you not later than in
two weeks after receiving the valid application.

September 12, 2005, 24 h of Beijing time (16 h UT)
(42 days before the Olympiad starting).
