Title: SKIF-GRID supercomputing program: current activity and future plans
Speaker: Alexander Moskovsky, Program Systems Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences

The SKIF-GRID supercomputing program is one of leading initiatives in the field of High-Performance Computing in Russia and Belarus. The SKIF-GRID is a continuation of SKIF program, completed in the 2000-2004. The SKIF-GRID timeframe is since 2007 to 2010, an the second phase has been started in the 2009. While in the 2007-2008 we concentrated to high-performance computing clusters, the 2009-2010 is dedicated to the development of technology, that allows creating petascale-class machines.

The program is organized in four main directions:
  1. Grid technology
  2. Supercomputers
  3. Information security
  4. Pilot application projects.
Collaboration include Russian and Belorussian partners, Program Systems Institute leads collaboration in Russia. Russian part of collaboration includes 20 partner organizations. As well, we collaborate closely with European company in the development of highly dense solution for high-performance x86-64 clusters. Main distinctive features of the solution include:
  • High-density: up to 512 last generation Intel Nehalem CPU per rack
  • Liquid cooling
  • Two high-speed networks integrated: 3-D torus and Infiniband QDR
