Compact laser time-of-fligh mass-reflector (LASMA)
Compact laser time-of-fligh mass-reflector (LASMA)

Function

Determination of elemental and isotope compositions in solids, including powders for the range of tasks in metallurgy, geology, ecology, medicine as well as in space research.

Description

Laser source with an objective provides energy focusing in the spot with the diameter 30 to 50 μm on the target. Generated ions after reflection in the field of the electrostatic mirror are directed to the detector, where they form mass peaks. The rate of the laser pulses and spectrum data processing can be set from 0.2 to 30 Hz. The instrument is produced on the order. Earlier developed distant laser mass spectrometer LIMA-D was used in the Soviet project Phobos. For the new Phobos-Grunt mission two instruments are developed: MANAGA-F for the secondary ion detection and LASMA for the detection of elemental and isotopic composition of the Phobos regolith. Mass of each instrument is not more than 1.5 kg.
