In this issue:

  1. CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR P81
  2. NEW DEADLINE FOR PROPOSALS FOR SCIENCE DEMONSTRATION OBSERVATIONS WITH MAD

1. CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR P81

The Call for Proposals for observations at the ESO telescopes during Period 81 (April 1, 2008 - September 30, 2008) has been released. In this Period, a new instrument, HAWK-I, on UT4, is offered for the first time. On APEX, proposals are invited for LABOCA (which was only offered for a limited amount of time in a Delta Call for Period 80) as well as APEX-2A; FLASH has been retired. On La Silla, EMMI and SUSI-2 are no longer offered, and EFOSC-2 will move to the NTT for Period 81. Visitor Mode runs on the La Silla telescopes may not be shorter than 3 nights. On the NTT Service Mode proposals are no longer accepted except for Targets of Opportunity and EFOSC-2 pre-imaging. The 2.2m telescope is offered only for Chilean Programme proposals.
Deadline for proposal submission is 28 September 2007, 12:00 noon CEST.

The full Call for Proposals and the ESOFORM electronic submission package can be obtained at
http://www.eso.org/sci/observing/proposals/index.html.
In order to avoid last-minute problems, users are strongly encouraged to fully verify their proposal well ahead of its actual submission, using a preliminary version including all necessary, fixed-format technical information, but possibly incomplete or non-final text descriptions (see ESOFORM manual for details).

2. NEW DEADLINE FOR PROPOSALS FOR SCIENCE DEMONSTRATION OBSERVATIONS WITH MAD

As already announced in issue #5 of the ESO-Enews, following the encouraging results obtained during the testing runs of the Multi-Conjugate Adaptive-Optics Demonstrator (MAD) instrument, ESO has decided to make the instrument available to the community for two Science Demonstration runs of 7 nights each, and proposals for observations to be carried out within this framework have been invited. Given the importance of finding appropriate asterisms, and in order to avoid overlap with the deadline for Hawk-I Science Verification proposals, the deadline for submission of such proposals has been postponed, and is now 10 September 2007.
