Thesis Topic: Use of CO rotational vibrational absorption spectroscopy to study physical conditions of very early stages for star formation
Thesis Supervisor: Hans-Ulrich Kц¤ufl
Abstract
ESO's new infrared Echelle spectrograph CRIRES (http://www.eso.org/instruments/crires) shall be used to study protostellar clouds during collapse. CO-gas in the respective clouds will be observed in absorption against anonymous field background stars. This will allow to constrain the very early phases of star formation with very high precision in a novel way.
