The 9th DFS Department meeting on January 17th, 2001

MAIN NEWS

• ESO wide review 18-23 January.
• VIMOS commissioning#1 is postponed again (now it's "not before April"), but official start operations date is still 12 July 2001.
• VIMOS dry-runs took place just before Christmas. They went quite well. Most time was spent discussing VIMOS operational issues, like handling of invalid OBs, system errors, etc., but we were also able to run a complete cycle, from OB check-in to mask manufacturing, insertion, unloading and discarding. P2PP and the MaskTracker performed according to specifications and were able to communicate with the VIMOS MMU software. There were a few problems here and there, on both sides of the VIMOS ICD, but nothing was critical. We collected useful feedback for further developement of the system.
• Next DFS commissioning by end of March.
