fitspack

Description

fitspack is a helper tool prepared by DFS. It merges a ste of input files into a single, multi-extension fits files. It uses the NOAO tool fgwrite. It is used within dfos to create ancillary files. Ancillary FITS files follow the FITS Foreign File Encapsulation Convention (see http://fits.gsfc.nasa.gov/registry/foreign.html).

How to use

fitspack should only be called by merge2Fits.

Type fitspack -h for on-line help.

Type

fitspack -o <output file > -c <data_description_file>

where output_file is the name of the output ancillary file, while the data description file (DDF) contains all required information about member files and header keys. All this is encapsulated in merge2Fits .

fitsunpack does the inverse operation: it unpacks a given ancillary fits file. It is not needed operationally but may be useful for testing.

Installation

Both tools comes as part of the utilPack delivery.
