clustered star-forming regions.

The star-formation process requires a balance of inward motion as mass gravitationally collapses onto a new star, and outward gas ejection to carry away excess angular momentum. As a protostar evolves, the outflows weaken and become more widespread. We observe protostars at a range of evolutionary stages to understand the impact of these outflows on the surrounding environment. Image credit: ESO/ A. Plunkett
