                            PURPOSE:

                          Study of fundamental physiological mechanisms of
						  external breathing function under long-duration orbital
						  flight conditions.

                            OBJECTIVES:

							- Study of dynamics of relationship between thoracic (pectoral)
							and abdominal functional breathing reserves and their realization
							potential during spontaneous breathing.

							- Assessment of functional state of respiratory system motility
							by dynamics of thoracic and abdominal components of forced inhalation
							and expiration rates.

							- Study of coordinated spontaneous respiratory movements by dynamics
							of relationship between thoracic and abdominal components of volumetric,
							time and rate parameters of spontaneous respiratory cycle.

							- Identified features of humoral-reflex regulation of breathing by
							dynamics of ventilation sensitivity of thoracic and abdominal components
							to chemoreceptor stimuli.

							- Study of features of voluntary control of respiratory movements by
							dynamics of time-dependent and precision characteristics
							(spirokinography)

                         EXPECTED RESULTS:

                              Studies of cosmonaut’s respiratory system enable to get
							  a better understanding of basic mechanisms of pulmonary
							  respiration/gas exchange gravitational relations.

                          EXPERIMENT RESULTS:

                          During conduct of the experiment the following physiological
						  signals are recorded:

                            - pneumotachogram;

                            - thoracic pneumogram;

                            - abdominal pneumogram;

							- pressure in oral cavity.

                          All experimentally derived physiological data,
						  as well as environmental data on the date of conducting
						  the experiment and personal data on the person under
						  examination are recorded on PCMIA card, which is to be
						  returned to the ground upon completion of the Expedition.
