Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia and European
Space Agency (ESA) concluded a contract to fly Spanish astronaut
Pedro Duque, member of the European astronauts team as the
transport spacecraft Soyuz TMA-1 flight engineer as the
visiting crew VC-5 member (October 2003, ISS-7 and ISS-8
phase) to the International Space Station (ISS) and perform
science research and experiments under Servantes SSM Project

* Experiments to be performed in MSG of the US Segment
of the ISS.
** Experiments to be performed in the US Segment of the
ISS.
Public relations and Symbolic activities are planned to
be performed within the frame of Servantes SSM Project.
Sixteen Servantes SSM Project experiments will be performed
in the Russian Segment of the ISS. Four experiments PROMISS,
NANOSLAB, CREW RESTRAINT and MEDOPS will be performed in
the US Segment of the ISS.
Three experiments AGEING, ROOT, GENEEXPRESSION will be performed
by using one and the same hardware Aquarius-B delivered
to ISS RS under Odissea Project.
The Servantes SSM project experiments will use both the
hardware uploaded within this project, and the hardware
already available on board the ISS RS. Of the available
hardware the flight hardware and Russian scientific hardware,
as well as hardware left after completion of the Andromede
(for LSO-S, CARDIOCOG-2, NEUROCOG-2), Marko Polo (for CARDIOCOG-2,
NEUROCOG-2) and Odissea (AGEING, ROOT, GENEEXPRESSION) missions
will be used.
For implementation of the SERVANTES SSM Project experiments
and activities the following resources are required:

Ten experiments in the Servantes SSM Project will be performed
by the Spanish astronaut without assistance of the Russian
cosmonauts. The Russian cosmonaut, ISS-8 flight engineer
will take part in 6 experiments. As an assistant he will
be involved in three human physiology experiments (CARDIOCOG-2,
NEUROCOG-2, SYMPATHO-2) and photo and video imagery in experiments
3D Camera, VIDEO-2, APIS. The WINOGRAD experiment will be
activated by the Expedition ISS-7 Commander. If there is
no orbital attitude during VC-5 he will perform LSO-S experiment
before the beginning of VC-5.
Upon completion of the scientific program 39 experiments
results of a total mass of 16.30 kg is planned to be handed
over to the principal investigators:
· On scientific program |
- |
37 units |
of a total mass of 13.97 kg |
including early retrieval
cargoes |
- |
10 units |
of a total mass of 11.68 kg |
· On symbolic activity |
- |

of a total mass of 2.33 kg |
The visiting crew (VC-5) flight is scheduled between October
18 and October 28 2003. The duration of the joint flight
within the Russian Segment of the ISS is 8 days.
The International crew including Pedro Duque, VC-5 flight
engineer 1 (Spain) will be delivered to the ISS RS by Soyuz
TMA-3 transport manned spacecraft and will return in the
descent capsule of the Soyuz TMA-2 transport manned spacecraft.
