DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH:
Born on November 19, 1962 in Albany, New York. She considers Clearwater, Florida, to be her hometown.
EDUCATION:
Graduated from Clearwater High School, Clearwater, Florida, in 1980.
She received a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 1987 and in 1992 Nicole Stott received a master of science degree in engineering management, University of Central Florida.
FAMILY STATUS: married to Christopher Stott, an Englishman.
AWARDS: AWARDS: NASA medal and several awards.
HOBBY: Snow skiing, SCUBA diving, painting, gardening, woodworking. Has a licence of a private pilot.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
In 1987 Ms. Stott began to work as a structural design engineer with Pratt and Whitney Government Engines in West Plan Beach, Florida, namely in the Advanced Engines Group.
Since 1988 she worked at the Kennedy Space Center, NASA as an Operations Engineer in the Orbiter Processing Facility.
She was the Lead for a joint Ames/KSC software project to develop intelligent scheduling tools. The Ground Processing Scheduling System (GPSS) was developed as the technology demonstrator for this project. This program is still used for Shuttle processing scheduling.
During her time at KSC, NASA, Ms. Stott held a variety of positions such as Vehicle Operations engineer, NASA Convoy Commander, Shuttle Flow Director for Endeavour.
In 1996 - 1998 she was a member of the Space Station Hardware Integration Office in Huntington Beach, CA where she served as the Project Lead for the ISS truss elements under construction.
In 1998 she joined the Johnson Space Center team as a member of the NASA Aircraft Operations Division, where she served as a Flight Simulation Engineer on the Shuttle Training Aircraft.
Selected for astronaut corps. by NASA (17-th selection) in 1997. She was among 121 finalists of the selection, took a medical examination and an interview in Houston in the second finalist group since October 19, 1997.
On July 26, 2000 she was selected by NASA as an astronaut candidate (18-th selection) as a mission specialist. Passed a course of general space training.
On January 26 - 28, 2006 she within the preliminary crew, together with Maxim Suraev (Russia) and Timothy Kopra participated in a two-day test for survival in the desolate territory in case of the descent vehicle emergency landing. The test was conducted in the forest near Moscow.
In April 2006 she was a crew member on the NEEMO 9 mission (NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations) where she lived and worked with a 6 person crew for 18 days in the Aquarius Underwater Laboratory (belongs to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration - NOAA).
On February 13, 2007 by NASA decision she was assigned as a flight engineer for the backup crew of Expeditions 17 and18 to the ISS (ISS-17/18).
In summer 2007 preliminarily she was assigned to the prime crew of Expedition 19 to the ISS (ISS-19). On February 12, 2008 officially declared on her assignment to this crew. On November 21, 2008 NASA her assignment was reconfirmed by NASA when declaring the ISS-20 - ISS-26 crewmembers.
