Educational & Humanitarian projects on ISS Russian Segment
Experiment PICTURE
PICTURE experiment is included in the research program conducted onboard the ISS Russian Segment by spaceflight participant Richard Garriott within the framework of the GTA project.
Objective:
Carrying out a procedure to paint an image on a standard sheet of paper.
Tasks:
- Obtaining images on sheets of paper with the use of paints.
- Conducting photography and video filming of the painting process.
Science Hardware Used:
- The PICTURE kit,
which includes 2 sets of paints, a box and 6 sheets of paper.
The box is a special structure in the shape of a transparent polyethylene unsealed container with fasteners inside
(a "space easel" of a sort), and is designed to protect against exposure to ventilation air flows during the experiment,
as well as to protect the space station environment from paint drops.
The set of paints consists of 4 sealed packages filled with various water-base paints.
The paints that are used are of four colors - red, yellow, green and blue.
The second set of paints is a spare and is intended for replacement of the primary packages in case of their leakage.
Flight Equipment Used:
- Nikon D3 camera;
- Sony HVR-Z7 video camera for taking accompanying photos and videos.
Experiment Results:
Sheets with the paintings, as well as the accompanying photographic and video information on a flash memory card and a video cassette.
