Russian Mini Research Module Rassvet (MRM1) has been delivered to the International Space Station (ISS).

U.S. Orbiter Atlantis (STS-132) in the payload bay of which this module is installed berthed pressurized adapter PMA-2 on Harmony Module at 18:28 Moscow Time.

The successful delivery of Mini Research Module MRM1 to the ISS by the Shuttle confirmed soundness of technical solutions envisaged by the RSC Energia developers for the module structure and also validity of some complex of ground tests conducted at the Corporation, as applied to the conditions for launch and flight using this type of transportation facilities.

 

 For reference:

  1. The operation of the Rassvet Module transfer to the ISS Russian Segment (RS) is planned for May 18. During this operation the mentioned Module will be withdrawn from the payload bay using the Atlantis Orbiter manipulator and transferred to the ISS manipulator which will provide the Module motion and installation to nadir docking port of Functional Cargo Block Zarya.
  2. The following is delivered in MRM1 flight configuration to the ISS: the airlock and radiation heat exchanger required for Multipurpose Laboratory Module (MLM) - a future component of the ISS RS. After docking of Multipurpose Laboratory Module (MLM) to the ISS these elements will be relocated for operation within it. The cargo and equipment for the USOS are also accommodated in MRM1 pressurized compartment.
