"Seagull" over Planet

On June 16, 1963, at 12 hours 30 minutes, Moscow Time, the Soviet Union launched into an Earth satellite orbit the spacecraft Vostok-6, the first in the world that is piloted by a woman - a citizen of the Soviet Union cosmonaut comrade Tereshkova, Valentina Vladimirovna.

This mission will continue the study of various effects of spaceflight environment on human body, including a comparative analysis of these effects on man's and woman's bodies, new biomedical studies will be completed, and further work on development and improvement of manned spacecraft systems will be performed under conditions of a joint flight.

In accordance with the mission plan, the launch of Vostok-6 took place during the period when spacecraft Vostok-5 launched in the Soviet Union on June 14, 1963, is in orbit.

At present, flying simultaneously in space are two Soviet spacecraft - Vostok-5 and Vostok-6, piloted by citizens of the Soviet Union comrades Bykovsky, Valery Fyodorovich, and Tereshkova, Valentina Vladimirovna.

Cosmonaut comrade Tereshkova, Valentina Vladimirovna, has withstood the orbital insertion of the spacecraft and transition to zero gravity conditions in a satisfactory manner. Comrade Tereshkova feels well.
