DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH:
Born on November 26, 1937 in Moscow.

DATE AND CAUSE OF DEATH:
Died on September 12, 1994 because of the heart failure. He was buried on September 16, 1994 in Moscow at the Novodevichie Cemetery.

EDUCATION AND ACADEMIC RANKS:
In 1955 he finished 10 classes of the Secondary School in Moscow.
In June 1961 he graduated from the 1st Moscow Medical Institute after I.M. Sechenov (1st MMI) specializing in General Medicine.
In 1965 Egorov received the title of Doctor of Medicine of the Berlin University of von Humboldt (GDR).
On December 29, 1967 he defended his thesis and received a candidate's degree (medical sciences).
On November 23, 1979 he defended his thesis on the following subject: "Theoretical Foundations and system of human state control in weightlessness" and received the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences.
In 1984 he was awarded the title of Professor.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:
From April 16, 1960 he worked as a laboratory assistant of the 2nd Department of CTC.
From November 22, 1960 he worked as a laboratory assistant of the 10th Department of NII-7, AF (Institute of Aviation and Space Medicine - IAiKM). Egorov was engaged in physiology problems.
From January 26, 1961 he worked as a junior researcher of the 16th Laboratory of the 16th Department, the 2nd Directorate of IAiKM. Since January 1961 Egorov was a member of the group of paratroopers-physicians organized to render medical assistance to cosmonauts as soon as possible after their landing. During the flight of Yu.A. Gagarin he was on duty in one of the reserved landing areas in Siberia.
From January 23, 1964 Egorov worked as a junior researcher at Laboratory ?1 of the Institute of Space Biology and Medicine (Institute of Biomedical Problems) of the USSR Ministry of Health.
From March 27, 1964 he worked as Head of Laboratory KL of IBMP.
From June 3, 1965 Egorov acted as Head of Sector ? 10 and was Head of Laboratory A, Department ? 28 of IBMP. From March 13, 1967 Egorov acted as Head of this Laboratory and on June 24, 1967 he became Head.
From June 30, 1967 he worked as Head of Laboratory G, Department ? 5, Sector ? 1 of IBMP.
Since June 1, 1970 he was Head of Department ? 51. From August 9, 1972 to September 1974 Egorov headed the leading specialists department of Chief Designer service. And From September 29, 1974 he again was Head of Department ? 51. From July 2, 1980 he worked as Head of Sector ? 5 and from April 9 to October 1982 he again was Head of Department ? 51. From October 20, 1982 to June 1984 Egorov was Head of Department ? 9 of IBMP.
From June 28, 1984 to April 1992 he worked as Director of Biomedical Technology Research Institute (NII BT) of the USSR Ministry of Health.
From April 20, 1992 to January 29, 1993 he was Adviser to Telebank President.

MILITARY SERVICE:
On June 1, 1961 after graduation from the 1st MMI he was appointed to the Soviet Army cadre and by Order of the USSR Ministry of Defence Egorov was enlisted at the disposal of the Air Force Commander-in-Chief.
From July 29, 1961 he was a junior scientific worker of the 18 Laboratory, the 17th Department, the 2nd Directorate of Institute of Aviation and Space Medicine (IAiKM).
On January 8, 1964 Egorov was sent on a mission to the USSR Ministry of Health but remained on active duty.
On October 24, 1989 by Order of the USSR Ministry of Defence ? 01184 Egorov retired for age. He was officially expressed gratitude and awarded with a Certificate of Gratitude. On December 11, 1989 Egorov was excluded from the lists of the unit (the 3rd General Directorate of the USSR Ministry of Health) but kept his previous post (Director of NPTs MB).

SPACE TRAINING:
For the first time Egorov passed a preliminary medical examination as a candidate for a group of cosmonauts-physicians in spring 1962 but he was rejected by the Commission because of myopia (shortsightedness) revealed. On October 22, 1962 he mode an application to the Head of his laboratory with a request to apply to higher command "for including him in the group of physicians-cosmonauts. The request was satisfied and in spring 1964 B.B. Egorov was included in the group of candidates for a spaceflight aboard the Voskhod spacecraft as a physician-cosmonaut. In April he successfully passed the examination in NIAG hospital. On May 26, 1964 his candidature was supported at the meeting of the Mandate Commission and on May 29, 1964 by Order of the Air Force Commander-in-Chief he was enlisted in the training group for a spaceflight aboard the Voskhod SC.
From June to October 1964 Egorov passed training as a physician-cosmonaut for a spaceflight aboard the Voskhod SC first within the group, and since July 1964 - in the prime crew together with Boris Volynov and Georgy Katys. However, after the primary crew was replaced by the backup crew Egorov was included in the new prime crew (together with Vladimir Komarov and Konstantin (Feoktistov). On October 9, 1964 by decision of the State Commission he was approved within the prime crew of the Voskhod spacecraft.

The First Flight:
Egorov performed his first spaceflight at a period of October 12-13, 1964 as a physician-cosmonaut of the Voskhod SC crew together with Vladivim Komarov and Konstantin Feoktistov.
His call sign is Rubin-3.
The flight duration was 1 day 00 hr 17 min 03 sec.

Egorov formally remained in the cosmonaut corps till 1982 but he did not pass training for spaceflights and was not assigned to the crews.

ACADEMIC RANKS:
In 1965 he received the title of Doctor of Medicine of the Berlin University after von Humboldt (GDR).
On January 20, 1984 Egorov received the title of Professor (specializing in Human and Animal Physiology).
From December 31, 1971 he was a member (academician) of the International Astronautics Academy.
In 1970-1994 Egorov was Deputy Chairman of Bioastronautics Committee of the International Astronautical Federation.

PROFICIENCY:
Cosmonaut 3rd Class (1964).

PUBLICATIONS:
Has 16 inventions and 2 rationalization proposals, author of more than 120 scientific publications and reports.

AWARDS:
Decorated with such a medal as Gold Star of Hero of the Soviet Union and Order of Lenin (1964), Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1976), medal For the Development of Virgin Lands (1964) and nine jubilee medals.
He was also decorated with the following medal: Gold Star of Hero of Labour of DRV (1964), Order of the State Banner of HPR (1971), medal 25 Years of People's Rule (1969, Bulgaria).
The crater on the lunar farside was named after him.
