YAMAL-200 Communications Satellite

Spacecraft Yamal-100, Yamal-200 were developed by the Corporation based on the S.P.Korolev RSC Energia-designed Multi-purpose Satellite Bus under a contract with Gascom within the framework of the Russian Federal SpaceProgram.

Yamal-100 SC Yamal-200 SC

Yamal-100 SC of the first modification, that meets the world telecommunications space service market requirements, operated in GEO from September 6, 1999 to August 2011, for the first time having exceeded a ten-year design operating life in GEO, is a demonstrative example of implementing advanced science-intensive space technologies of the XXI century in new developments.
Yamal-200 is the second, more powerful, modification of the SC design in the Yamal series, and is designed for working within Yamal satellite communications and broadcasting system, which provides advanced communications links to organizations within the Russian gas industry, as well as telecommunications services to users in Russia and abroad, which include voice and fax communications, videoconferencing, transmission of digital data and TV programs, connection to the Internet.
In the design of these satellites, RSC Energia used its fully developed Multi-purpose Unpressurized Satellite Bus, allowing, on very short notice, to implement on its basis different special-purpose SC projects (for navigation, Earth remote sensing, monitoring, etc.) that widely use the modular principle in their design.
The Assembly-and-Test Center The Corporation production facilities have the capacity to manufacture up to 6-8 spacecraft of this type per year. These facilities meet Russian and international requirements and standards, have an Assembly-and-Test Center and a High-Cleanliness Industrial Room that are unparalleled in the Russian rocket and space industry and also has testing facilities allowing to run all kinds of tests (strength, vibration, acoustic, thermal/vacuum integrated electrical tests, etc.) on the assembled spacecraft in order to verify and guarantee that their reliability meets customer requirements.
Both Yamal-200 SC (SC-1 and SC-2), just like their predecessors, have undergone a complete scope of tests to develop control and monitoring interfaces with the Yamal SC Mission Control Center (MCC), with MCC continuously monitoring SC systems health from lift-off to the target orbit insertion. The work and tests incorporated to the maximum extent possible the lessons learned during development and operation of Yamal-100 SC, and there were new technical solutions aimed at assuring a higher reliability and surviveability of the SC.
Yamal-200 SC1Yamal-200 SC2 Yamal-200 satellites were launched on November 24, 2003 at 9 hours 22 minutes, Moscow Time. Proton-K launch vehicle put the orbital module into its reference orbit. The stack of the two spacecraft was delivered from the reference orbit to the target orbit by an upper stage of the Block DM type (11C861-01). After Yamal-200 SC stack separates into SC-1 and SC-2, the spacecraft independently transit from the target orbit into their GEO orbital positions. Both spacecraft function normally.
