Ceremonies were held on the S.P.Korolev RSC Energia company's premises, in the town of science Korolev, and in Moscow to mark the 104th anniversary of Sergei Pavlovich Korolev - an outstanding scientist, farther of our country's rocket technology and space flight, Chief Designer of the legendary Special Design Bureau No.1 (OKB-1), the man who directed the work on the development of the first long-range ballistic missiles in our country, Earth artificial satellites, manned spacecraft, unmanned interplanetary probes.
Taking part in the events were the S.P.Korolev RSC Energia managers and representatives of the workforce, representatives of the administration and general public of the town of science of Korolev; Corporation veterans, relatives and associates of S.P. Korolev, cosmonauts, as well as young scientists and professionals - participants in the annual competition for the S.P. Korolev prize sponsored by the town.
The award ceremony for the winners of the competition, which is annually held among young scientists and specialists of the town's scientific and production organizations, traditionally takes place on the birth day of S.P. Korolev. In 2010, participants in the competition also included young people from other towns.
By the decision of the competition commission, the 2010 competition winners are:
- A.L. Polovnev (1st prize), S.P. Korolev RSC Energia, Korolev,
- Y.V. Brodin (2nd prize), NPO IT, Korolev,
- M.V. Yachmenev (3rd prize), TRV Corporation, Korolev,
- A.S. Timoshin and A.V. Starodumova (3rd prize) for their joint work, Central Research Institute of Machine-building (TsNIIMash), Korolev,
- S.O. Shkarupa (incentive prize), Korolev College for Space Machine-building, Korolev,
- S.P. Sinitsa and A.V. Tretyakov (incentive prize), A.Y. Bereznyak GosMKB Raduga, Dubna.
In the morning, a ceremony was held in Corporation museum to present the winners with winner's certificates, medals and trophies. The talented young people were congratulated by: on behalf of the town of science - A.B. Kapustyan, Y.G. Belomytsev; on behalf of RSC Energia - V.A. Lopota, cosmonaut-researcher Y.V. Usachev; on behalf of Sergei Korolev's family - his daughter N.S. Koroleva.
They wished the competition participants further successes in their work and creative efforts.
After that a delegation of representatives of S.P.Korolev RSC Energia, of the town of science Korolev and of the family of S.P. Korolev laid flowers to memorial plaques and monuments to the Chief Designer both on the corporate premises and in the town of Korolev, as well as in Moscow to the monument to S.P. Korolev on the premises of the Central Museum of Space Flight and to the Kremlin wall at the Sergei Korolev's burial place.
