A visiting session of the presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences was held at the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia based on a joint decision by the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Yu.S. Osipov and the Corporation President and General Designer V.A. Lopota to mark the 50th anniversary of the first manned space mission.
The session was conducted by the Chairman of the presidium, the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yu.S. Osipov.

Heard with keen interest were speeches delivered by the President and General Designer of the Corporation, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.A. Lopota, RAS academicians L.M. Zelenyi, B.Y. Chertok, B.I. Katorgin, A.I. Grigoriev, V.Y. Fortov, E.M. Galimov.
At the beginning of the session, V.A. Lopota presented the Medal of Merit for Space Exploration (No.1) to the chief scientific consultant of the Corporation President, an associate of S.P. Korolev, RAS academician Boris Chertok.
Later in the day, the RAS delegation toured the exhibit at the Center for Technology Development and Personnel Training.
