A grand meeting of the Corporation's Scientific and Technical Council was held at S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia to mark the 50th anniversary of the first manned flight into space carried out by our compatriot Yuri Gagarin.
The grand meeting was opened by a first deputy general designer, Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Corporation, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.P. Legostaev.
A lecture about the preparations for, and the carrying out and results of the first manned mission into space was given by the Chief scientific consultant of the Corporation President, an associate of S.P. Korolev, a direct participant in the events, which took place 50 years ago, a member of the Russian academy of sciences Boris Chertok.
Pilot-cosmonaut Victor Gorbatko shared his memories about his joint work with Yuri Gagarin in the cosmonaut team.
Words of welcome and congratulations on the occasion the anniversary were offered by: RSC Energia President and General Designer V.A. Lopota, Head of a directorate of the Federal Space Agency A.B. Krasnov; minister of industry in the Government of Moscow region V.I. Kozyrev; the daughter of the chief designer S.P. Korolev N.S. Koroleva; General Designer for ground space infrastructure - deputy general designer of TsENKI I.V. Barmin; NASA associate administrator for manned programs W. Gerstenmaier; ESA program director for the International Space Station B. Patti.
Taking part in the meeting were heads of rocket and space industry enterprises in our town, managers and leading specialists of the Corporation subdivisions and affiliate companies, pilots-cosmonauts, young specialists and veterans of the company, representatives of the mass media.
