For the last few decades InformChaos Lab of the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics of Russian Academy of Sciences studies chaos and complex dynamics of nonlinear systems.
In 2000 as a result of these studies we proposed a concept of Direct Chaotic Communications (DCC). Testbeds of wireless communication systems demonstrated transmission of information with rates up to 200 Mbps.
Chaotic (noise-like ) oscillations of deterministic systems are used as information carriers in DCC. These signals have a number of unique features that give communication systems the following characteristics:

Since 2002, by decision of FCC USA the frequency band 3.1–10.6 GHz is permitted for unlicensed use. According to this decision, systems operating in this band must use very low-power ultrawideband (UWB) signals with bandwidth wider than 500 MHz. Such systems are devoted to short-range and indoor communications.
At present, a IEEE 802.15.4a standard is being developed for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs), and systems using chaotic UWB signals are adopted in the standard.
Such systems for information transmission solve the following tasks:
