Onboard control and data acquisition systems
Onboard control and data acquisition systems

Function

  • Scientific data acquisition.
  • Control of scientific instruments.
  • Command translation.

    Description

The scientific data acquisition systems are designed to ensure the flexible control and optimal operation of various scientific instruments and, on the other hand, to comply with the standard interface of spacecraft service systems. Such systems are capable to translate and convert commanding and timing signals, to poll the instruments and acquire the scientific information, to perform the temporary storage, formatting, and onboard data processing, and to transmit the data into the spacecraft telemetry or radiosystem. Currently IKI develops scientific data acquisition systems for various spacecraft:

    Name                          Project                                Launch

    BND-M                         Meteor-3M                         2006

    BND-E                         Electro-L                            2007

    SSRNI                         CORONAS-Photon          2007

    BPI, BUP                     Spectr-R                            2007

    SSNI-2                         Spectr-R                            2007

    SIOK                            Fobos-Grunt                     2009

    BUSK                           Spectr-UF                          2010

    BIUS                            Spectr-RG                         2009 (?)

Depending on the project, the requirements of high bit-rate (e.g., for astrophysical projects), small mass (interplanetary probes) or capabilities of flexible onboard data processing and large onboard memory storage (solar-terrestrial projects) can be the determining factor.

The systems are built with full redundancy.
