Introduction
The annual ATNF student symposium is being held on Wednesday 26th of April at ATNF Headquarters, Sydney.
The symposium began in 1998 and was originally designed to allow higher degree students the opportunity to present their research to fellow students and staff.
The idea of the symposium is to provide an informal atmosphere where ATNF affiliated students can present their work and allow ATNF staff and visitors to be informed of current research. There are a number of ways students can present their work:
Attendance is open to all students, staff and visitors of ATNF. Students are invited to submit a short abstract for a 15-20min talk. All students are strongly encouraged to utilise this opportunity to obtain feedback on their research and it is expected by the ATNF that students will attend. It is important to note that these are not formal talks, but rather an opportunity for students to gain experience at public speaking and to provide staff the opportunity to see some of the excellent research being under taken by ATNF students.
Interstate students are particularly encouraged to present their work and teleconference facilities will be available for those that can not present in person.
Facilities
The Symposium will take place in the lecture theater at ATNF's Marsfield headquarters in Sydney. Full use of overhead projectors, slide projector and a proxima has been arranged. Presenters wishing to give power point presentations may use the computer in the lecture theater, however the presentation must be loaded on from disk. People wishing to give power point presentations of files larger than that which may be placed on disk are advised to supply their own laptops. Further information with respect to this can be obtained from the organiser.For those people unable to attend in person, teleconferencing can be arranged. People wishing to present via teleconferencing are asked to forward a copy of their overhead transparencies to Melanie Johnston-Hollitt no later than the 24th of April to allow sufficient time for printing.
Meals
As part of the program a lunch of sandwiches will be provided for speakers and their guests as well as morning and afternoon tea for all participants.
Accommodation
Accommodation is the responsibility of the participant. Some accommodation has been reserved for interstate ATNF Students in the Marsfield Lodge, however as always students should be aware that the lodge capacity is limited and operates on a first come first served basis. Registration
For catering & equipment purposes, all people wishing to attend are asked to register by the 14th of April. Students must include a short abstract of their presentation with their registration.
