Major National Research Facility Project
Australia Telescope MM Upgrade
This section contains information on MNRF 1996 (ATNF mm Upgrade). The current project is MNRF 2001 (Gemini and SKA: Australia's Astronomy Future) |
Introduction
In November 1995 the Federal Government announced that seven Major National Research Facilities would be funded in a major boost to Australian scientific research infrastructure. The Australia Telescope Upgrade was one of the projects selected for funding with the aim of maintaining Australia's leading position in Southern Hemisphere radio astronomy. The upgrade will enable radio astronomical observations to be made at much shorter wavelengths and higher angular resolution than before. Funding is also available to enable Australian astronomers to explore the potential for international collaboration with other scientists and institutions.
