Gornergrat, Switzerland
The following photos were taken during my visits to the KOSMA observatory at the Gornergrat in Switzerland in December 2002 and November 2003. The observatory hosted a 3-m telescope for sub-mm observations and was operated by the Universities of Cologne and Bonn. The high altitude of 3100 m as well as the surrounding glaciers are accountable for a very low water vapour content of the atmosphere, allowing for sub-mm observations up to the highest frequencies of 890 GHz.
