Selavy and the ASKAP Source-finding Service
Current status of the source finding service: HALTED
- 1/5/2013 - v3.0, r18618 - Several changes to the input parameters, their default values, and how they are structured hierarchically. Algorithms principally affected are the fitting and the variable threshold searching. See the the redmine wiki page for the complete list of changes.
- 12/12/2012 - v2.1, r17661 - Implementing SST specifications on 2D-1D wavelet reconstruction, plus slight changes to the fitting parameter set.
- 7/11/2012 - v2.0, r17476 - Implementing SST specifications on spectral extraction and mask optimisation. Using Duchamp-1.2.2.
- 10/9/2012 - v1.7, r16983 - Making use of Duchamp version 1.2. Also fixing a bug preventing the sorting of output source lists.
- 13/6/2012 - v1.6, r15987 - Improved Gaussian fitting, performance improvements, use of casacore-1.4.0 and a few bug fixes. See the full list of changes.
- 20/3/2012 - v1.5, r15289 - New version with several bug fixes and some new features. Full list of changes can be found on the redmine wiki.
- 23/9/2011 - Added links to the newest simulation releases, so that the images can be used without uploading. See the redmine page for details about directory names.
- 13/7/2011 - v1.4, r13420 - Fixed a bug that led to incorrect results in the case where there were subimage divisions in the spectral direction, and sources lay across those divisions. This was the second error raised in ticket #3454.
- 1/6/2011 - v1.3.1, r13132 - Minor fix for problem where even values of noiseBoxSize would cause an overflow error. Even values are now incremented by one to avoid this.
- 29/5/2011 - v1.3, r13103 - Fixed a couple of reported problems:
- Addressed ticket #3454, where distributed processing of very large sources was taking too long. A more efficient approach has led to good speed-ups.
- Fixed bugs in the way the Median Searching algorithm works. This now provides reliable (and correct!) results.
- 12/4/2011 - v1.2, r12500 - Updated code to use Duchamp-1.1.13. Also some bug fixes:
- getting WCS offsets correct when using subsections
- correctly treating NCP projections
- writing the noise level out when fitting
- fixing a bug in calculation of medians
- fixing a bug (ticket #3379) where the statistics calculation was failing.
- 25/3/2011 - v1.1, r12339 - Updated code to use Duchamp-1.1.12. Also some fixes:
- improved parsing of subsections
- getting 2D smoothing working properly (it was just doing the first plane).
- 9/3/2011 - v1.0, r12210 - Initial release of the Selavy Sourcefinding Service.
NB: The version number of the Source finding service, plus the revision number (rXXXXX) that appears in the logs, are shown for each update. This will help you identify which version of the of the service a given job was done with.
A major part of the ASKAP software development is to produce an effective source-finding tool to automatically process the images and cubes that come out of the pipeline imager. The prototype pipeline under development by the ASKAP computing team includes Selavy, a source finder built on the Duchamp package (available here as a stand-alone program). This pipeline version includes several features not available in the stand-alone version, and so, to enable testing of these features by the Survey Science Teams, we are providing a facility to test this. It is a queue-based process, where the user submits a job in the form of a parameter set, and then retrieves the results once complete.
Should you wish to make use of this facility, please:
- Join a Survey Science Team - we are only making this available for the SSTs for testing purposes related to the ASKAP Design Studies. To find out about the Survey Science Projects, go here.
- Contact your Source Finding Working Group coordinator for details. Or contact me if it is not obvious who this is.
- Go to the Science and User Policy redmine site, then to the WG2 page to find documentation on the source-finding service.
- Get the script that is used for submissions from your SST redmine site.
The following table shows the status of jobs that have been submitted to the queue. They are identified by their Job ID (the identifier returned when you submit the job), the time the job was placed in the queue, and the current status.
Please report any bugs or problems via the Redmine ticket system.
