Hipparcos observations
The Hipparcos satellite was launched by the European Space Agency during 1989 August, with scientific observations made between 1989 November and 1993 March. More than 10 objects were observed for the Hipparcos Catalogue (ESA 1997), which has a mean astrometric precision of 1 milli-arcsec (mas). Table 1 lists raw parallaxes and proper motions obtained for hydrogen-deficient carbon stars observed as part of the Hipparcos catalogue (the catalogue reference number for each star is the HIP number in Table 1).
