VLBI observations of extragalactic H 2 O masers have been used to probe the subparsec scale structure and dynamics of several active
galaxies, notably NGC 4258. Here, we propose to use the LBA and the VLBA Mauna Kea antenna to generate the highest sensitivity,
highest angular resolution synthesis maps yet of the prominent masers in NGC 4945 and the Circinus galaxy. Preliminary observations
of both masers show evidence for rotating (accretion) disk structures and massive central engines. The proposed observations will
provide an opportunity to test and refine these models. In Circinus, strong maser emission coincides roughly with the axis of the disk
and is significantly offset from the disk. This arrangement is valuable because the physical relationship between outflows and disks in
AGN is poorly understood. The maser emission and proximate compact continuum emission, which we will observe as well, will permit
detailed analysis. Winter observation is especially important for 1 cm observations of these weak sources.
Alternate -- Water masers are captivating and we cannot get enough. Besides, 1 cm VLBI is easy so why not keep at it?
