PhD scholarship for international students available at ICRAR, Perth,
Western Australia
A scholarship to support PhD research into radio astronomy and/or
radio astronomy engineering is available at the Curtin University node
of ICRAR (http://www.icrar.org), based in Perth, Western Australia.
ICRAR is a Joint Venture between Curtin University and The University
of Western Australia and currently has a staff and student complement
of almost 100. The Curtin node of ICRAR undertakes significant
projects in both radio astronomy science and engineering. ICRAR is
co-located with a node of the Australian Research Council Centre of
Excellence in All-Sky Astrophysics (CAASTRO: http://www.caastro.org).
The scholarship is available to international students (not from New
Zealand) and consists of tuition fees for the duration of the award,
along with a tax free living allowance of $25,000 per year. The
duration of the scholarship is three years, with the possibility of a
six month extension if required. A relocation allowance is available
and support for travel is also available.
A wide range of research areas are available for this scholarship,
including but not limited to:
* Very Long Baseline Interferometry science and algorithm/technique
development, including eVLBI;
* Murchison Widefield Array science, including Epoch of Reionisation,
transients science, and Solar and Heliospheric science;
* Global signature Epoch of Reionisation science and instrument development;
* Low frequency array engineering and development;
* Fast radio transients science and engineering (for example
development of high speed digital systems);
* Slow radio transient science;
* Intraday radio variability, scintillation studies, both
observational and theoretical;
* Theoretical astrophysics;
* Various areas of ASKAP Survey Science;
* Pulsar science;
* Galactic X-ray binary systems;
* SKA science and engineering development;
* Applications of high performance computing to radio astronomy (data
processing, simulation/modelling);
* Limited capacity in optical astronomy.
Some preference will be given to excellent candidates who wish to
undertake a PhD project that spans science and engineering topics. To
