First VLBI fringes to ASKAP

Hi all,
I'm delighted to announce that the first VLBI fringes to an ASKAP antenna
were found today in a test observation between Antenna #29 at Boolardy and
Mopra. The fringes were easily detected in a one-second grab of data
trickled out of Boolardy on the satellite link and correlated at Parkes.
Further VLBI observations with Antenna #29 and the full Australian VLBI
array are planned over the next few weeks to tackle some real science.
In the long standing tradition of VLBI this encouraging early success is
the due of a geographically dispersed but very effective team.
Congratulations go in particular to Tasso Tzioumis, Shaun Amy, Yoon Chung,
Mike Kesteven, Mark Bowen, Chris Phillips, Mark Leach and Ross Forsyth of
CSIRO, and Bruce Stansby and Steven Tingay of Curtin University.
