Dear all
Below is a summary of our telecom of 3 March; thanks for your participation. Any comments/feedback welcome.
...........................
PAFSKA telecom Thursday 3 March 21 UT
Participants: Neil Roddis (SPDO), Matt Fleming, German Cortez (Cornell), Brian Jeffs (BYU), Bruce Veidt (DRAO),
Steve Torchinsky (OdP), Jean Michel Martin (OdP), Wim vC (ASTRON), Peter Maat (ASTRON),
Carole Jackson, Russell Gough, Mark Bowen, John Bunton, Lisa Harvey-Smith, Aaron Chippendale (CSIRO)
1. PrepSKA WP2.2 Dish array CoDR
Discussion of the draft 'planning' document as distributed.
Agreed that the following contributions will be made to complete Russell's 'planning' document.
a) Wim will summarise APERTIF PAF developments & UNIBOARD
b) Bruce will coordinate and summarise Canadian developments (DRAO PAFs and also UCal LNAs & beamf design background etc)
c) Peter will summarise his (and perhaps other work he is aware of in Italy and at Effelsberg) which is complimentary to that within ASKAP
And will also write brief outline of issues to consider in this domain.
Please send this material to Russell: he will ensure that these PAF-related developments are eventually captured in the "(PAF) Investigations report" which is part of the CoDR package.
Discussion of the first draft PAF Receiver Concept Document
There was round-table agreement that the 2 concepts that CSIRO has selected for the CoDR are valid and worthy of consideration. Relevant R&D by other PAFSKA groups will be incorporated - but (All) please forward material to Russell.
Bruce will lead the development of a 3rd concept for 'Direct Sampling' at high bandwidth or the CoDR; this is probably the best SKA-2 solution.
(All) are to submit contributions to Bruce as this develops.
Neil to send template 'Investigations Report' document to Russell (and WP2.2 task leaders)
2. PAFSKA workshop
Proposal is to have workshop hosted by BYU in May (w/b 23 May - tbc); general support round-table; to be developed.
Carole and others to progress & send out confirmation/invites asap. Please save the date in your diary!
3. Next PAFSKA discussion will follow on the PAF receiver concept developments as discussed today _and_ also start same process for the PAF feed/LNA design issues (perhaps including dish impact discussions).
