Hi everyone,
Following the last-minute withdrawal of Jeremy Lim,
and our failure to secure Mike Jura (UCLA) as a
replacement, we have run out of time to invite
another international speaker. This leaves a $3k
surplus from the MNRFIC funds.
Tony has suggested, and I agree with him, that we
should allocate the $3k equally among our speakers.
This will enable us to partially reimburse their
expenses up to a maximum of approx. $200 per person.
Naturally, members of the SOC will be excluded.
A draft letter to the speakers is attached,
together with a revised program adjusted for the
absence of Lim/Jura. We should post a final program
by Nov 4, so please send all your suggestions soon,
especially with regard to the discussion periods
and *session chairs* (the ones listed are just a
first cut and will probably change).
Support for domestic speakers does not lie within
the original guidelines of the MNRFIC award, but I
have advice from Sue Little (ATNF) that we will be
allowed to spend the money in this way if we wish.
This is a significant policy decision, especially
as it departs from the original MNRFIC guidelines.
The SOC will need to agree *unanimously* if we are
to proceed. Please email your yes/no "vote" (and any
comments or alternatives) as soon as possible.
Cheers,
Andrew
