MAPPING THE DARK MATTER USING WEAK LENSING
Henk Hoekstra
Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics
In recent year the accuracy with which the lensing signal induced by large scale structure can be measured, has improved tremendously. The prospects for the future are excellent and several large surveys are underway, which allow us to measure the matter power spectrum with great precision. By itself, and in combination with other methods, such as CMB, weak lensing provides tight constraints on a range of cosmological parameters. In this talk I will discuss the theory and how one goes from images to unbiased shape measurements. I will review recent progress in this rapidly evolving field, and discuss what to expect in the next few years, focusing on the weak lensing component of the CFHT Legacy Survey, which will image 160 square degree.
