IAU Commission 31 (Time) Circular 1, 24 January 2001 Dear colleagues, Five months after the Manchester General Assembly, it is about time to inform you on the course of events. Since you have received the Information Bulletin 88, you are aware of the IAU news, including new Resolutions (2000). Following are some specific matters on our Commission: 1)Thanks to our past president, Toshio Fukushima, the report for the 1996-1999 triennium and the report of the business session at the General Assembly were compiled. They may be found on the Commission web page under 'Activities' (see below). 2)A web page for the Commission 31 has just been opened. You find it at http://www.bipm.org/IAU31/. Please feel free to comment and moreover contribute to the site. 3)I expect that all correspondence and exchange of information will take place in electronic form. Unfortunately, a good number of members do not have an e-mail address in the records, and it is probable that a number of those existing addresses will bounce back. I would be grateful if you could provide any information/correction on the e-mail list which is attached (do not worry if your name is shortened here, it should be OK on the web page). According to IAU law it is not advised to post a list of e-mail addresses on the web, so you will not find this list there. I shall distribute the list to Commission members as required by updates. Please also check names and affiliations in the 'membership' page on the web. 4)You are reminded that 15 March 2001 is the deadline for proposals for IAU symposiums in 2002 and for letters of intent for Joint Discussions at the 2003 General Assembly in Sidney.
